Iskanderkul Lake Tour from Samarkand — 2 Days / 1 Night

Discover the mountain scenery of Tajikistan on a two-day journey from Samarkand to Iskanderkul Lake. Enjoy scenic drives through the Zarafshan Valley, explore lakeside trails and a waterfall, and spend a peaceful night in the Fann Mountains.

Day 1: Samarkand – Jartepa Border – Iskanderkul Lake

Your journey begins at 07:30 with pickup from your hotel in Samarkand and a transfer to the Jartepa border. After completing border formalities and crossing on foot, meet your Tajik driver and continue towards Iskanderkul.

Travel through the picturesque Zarafshan Valley, passing mountain villages and stopping along the way for photographs and lunch.

Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation in the Iskanderkul area before heading out to explore. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lakeshore, taking in the turquoise water and surrounding peaks. Follow the trail to Iskanderkul Waterfall, often called the “Niagara of the Fann Mountains,” and visit nearby Snake Lake if time permits.

Spend the evening relaxing in the mountain setting and enjoying dinner at your accommodation.

Overnight: Guesthouse or lodge in the Iskanderkul area, subject to the selected accommodation.

Day 2: Iskanderkul Lake – Panjakent – Samarkand

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning with time for a short lakeside walk and photographs before beginning the return journey.

Drive back through the mountains towards Panjakent. Stop for lunch and visit the local bazaar, where you can browse fresh produce, dried fruits, spices, and everyday local goods. Depending on your interests and available time, an optional visit to the Sarazm archaeological site can be arranged.

Continue to the Jartepa border and complete the crossing on foot. Your Uzbek driver will meet you on the other side and transfer you to your hotel in Samarkand, arriving in the evening.
